Why should I track?
Beyond just numbers, tracking allows us to be proactive and uncover trends. Consistent tracking provides the information we need to stay motivated and on the right path. The goal is to build awareness of what and how much you’re eating, which can help double your weight-loss efforts or lower your blood sugar. It’s important to find a tracking method that works for you. For example, using pen and paper, taking a photo of your food, and logging it when you have more time. Feel free to experiment until you find a method that suits your personality and schedule.

How do I take my body measurements?
You can start a document on a computer or phone, or use pen and paper to track your measurements and see your progress over time. Use these tips to track the most accurate measurements:
- Upper Arm: Measure above your elbows around the fullest part.
- Chest: Measure around your chest and back using your nipples as a guide.
- Waist: Measure at its narrowest point width-wise, usually just above the navel.
- Hips: Measure around the widest part of the hip bones.
- Thighs: Measure around the fullest part of the upper leg while standing with even weight distribution.
Suggested Photo guidelines:
- Use a simple or solid background.
- Set up the shot so you can be seen from head to toe.
- Stand comfortably, and position yourself at an angle that gives a good view of yourself.

For your 3rd-party food tracker to sync properly, it must be linked to the mobile app. Sometimes, 3rd-party manufacturers update their software, which can result in data not being pulled in correctly.
- On the web, go to your Settings page and check to see which nutrition tracker appears under the Devices and Applications heading.
- If the nutrition tracker you want to use is not linked, click “Change” and follow the instructions to link your account.
- If the nutrition tracker you’re using is connected, navigate to My Food Tracker, click “Last Updated”, and select Sync Data to do a manual sync.
- If it’s still not working, try disconnecting and reconnecting to see if that fixes the problem.
- In the mobile app, go to your Settings page and check which nutrition tracker appears under the Devices and Apps heading.
- If the nutrition tracker you want to use is not linked, tap the arrow and follow the instructions to link your account.
- If the nutrition tracker you’re using is configured correctly, navigate to My Food Tracker, tap “Last Updated”, and select “Sync Data” to do a manual sync.
- If it’s still not working, try disconnecting and reconnecting to see if that fixes the problem.
Note: It may take up to 10 minutes for your nutrition data to reach Rally Coach. Please check back later. Please note that as of January 2026, the Rally Coach app no longer has a direct connection with MyFitnessPal. To keep your tracking seamless, you can use Apple Health or Google Fit as a bridge to sync your MyFitnessPal data with Rally Coach.
If you continue to have difficulty with tracking your food using a 3rd party tracker, please contact Support for assistance.
All Other Wearable Devices
If you’ve selected any other wearable devices, such as Fitbit or Garmin, you must link the device directly to the app. You can do this on the web or mobile.
By default, Real Appeal uses its own food tracker technology. To link a 3rd party tracker from the app:
- Tap the 3 dots ••• beneath the My Food Tracker heading in the banner.
- An overflow menu will appear. Select Choose Different App for Syncing.
- Select the account you wish to link and tap “Continue”. You’ll need to log in to your FatSecret account to link it to your coaching program. Enter your credentials for your FatSecret. When your account is linked, you’ll see a confirmation screen. Tap “Got It” to return to My Food Tracker. Now, the calories for the foods you track with your 3rd-party food tracker will appear.
If you are linked to a 3rd party food tracker, and your food details stop updating, you can try manually syncing by tapping the 3 dots ••• next to Last Updated and tapping Sync Data when the overlay menu appears. If that is not successful, try unlinking the 3rd party food tracker and relinking it.
Note: It may take up to 10 minutes for your nutrition data to reach the app.
An Update for 2026: The app no longer has a direct connection with MyFitnessPal. To keep your tracking seamless, you can use Apple Health or Google Fit as a bridge to sync with MyFitnessPal.
When using one of these options for fitness tracking, please remember:
- Many built-in health trackers aggregate data from a variety of sources, so there may be a discrepancy between the data you see on your wearable device and the data pulled from your phone.
- Once you have selected your mobile device as your fitness tracker, it will work in both the Rally Coach web and Rally Coach app experiences. However, you will need to use the Rally Coach app to manage this tracker’s settings.
- You must sync your wearable device to its website or app. Rally Coach does not pull your step data directly from your wearable device. Rally Coach pulls data from your device partner’s database. This means, for example, if you have a Fitbit wearable device, it must be connected and regularly synced with your Fitbit app.
